Establishment of Smart Lighting Lab at Thu Dau Mot University
Thu Dau Mot University has completed the construction of a new Smart Lighting Lab (SML-Lab) located at campus 2, in My Phuoc 4 urban area, Thoi Hoa ward, Ben Cat town, Binh Duong province. SML-Lab was built according to European standards, with an investment cost of more than 900,000,000 VND (including funding from the Developing Energy Efficient and Smart Lighting Education project in Vietnam & Myanmar 30,000 EURO and reciprocal from Thu Dau Mot University).
SML-Lab is equipped with many modern equipment with high accuracy, directly serving teaching and scientific research for students and lecturers. Teaching subjects include:
- Lighting technology
- Lighting design and simulation.
- Project 2 - lighting orientation.
Currently, SML-Lab has been put into use and is serving 01 student’s scientific research project (Designing a monitoring and controlling model the lighting system using LORA – Student: Nguyen Van Trung) and 01 lecturer's scientific research project (Design and construction of light color scheme according to RGB color system and experimental set to measure and draw the optical distribution of luminaires – Lecturer: MSc. Nguyen Cao Tri).
According to professors from the DESL project, smart lighting and energy saving are within the sustainable development trend that people are aiming for. Establishing research labs, developing subject content, cooperating and transferring technology between European schools, such as Aalto University (Finland), Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) and universities in Vietnam in the field of lighting are practical activities and could bring enormous benefits to the universities and the community.
